The Grinch
The process begins with detailed sketches and planning. I explore different expressions and configurations, considering how the sculpture will convey the character's personality and presence. These initial studies help establish the visual language before moving into three-dimensional form.
Working in clay, I sculpt the figure, emphasizing the character's distinctive features and form. The texture and surface quality are carefully developed to create depth and character. I pay special attention to capturing the essence of the character through careful attention to proportions and expression.
The piece is prepared for bronze casting. I create a detailed mold that will capture all the subtle textures and forms. The bronze will add permanence and a sense of weight to the sculpture, making the character feel both timeless and substantial.
After casting, I apply a patina that enhances the character's presence. The patina process is carefully controlled to bring out the details and create visual interest, adding depth and dimension to the finished piece.
The finished bronze sculpture stands as a representation of the character, capturing both the familiar story and creating a new sculptural narrative that speaks to the character's enduring appeal.
