Scary Book Cover
I begin by constructing the book's structure, creating a solid base that will support the sculptural elements. The book form serves as both container and narrative device, setting the stage for the eerie content within. The binding and cover are carefully crafted to feel both familiar and unsettling.
The pages are hand-illustrated with dark, atmospheric imagery that tells a fragmented story. I work with ink and mixed media to create textures that suggest age, mystery, and unease. Each page builds on the previous one, creating a cumulative sense of dread.
Three-dimensional elements emerge from the pages—figures, objects, and forms that break the boundary between book and sculpture. These elements are carefully integrated, creating moments where the two-dimensional narrative becomes tangible and immediate.
Some elements are encapsulated in resin, creating a sense of preservation and entrapment. The clear resin adds depth and a sense of looking into another world, while also suggesting that these stories are both contained and potentially dangerous if released.
The finished piece exists at the intersection of book art and sculpture, creating an object that invites both reading and viewing. It explores how stories can be physical, how narrative can take form, and how the act of opening a book can feel like opening a portal to another realm.
